Our Local Picks for Work, Relaxation & Great Coffee
Hi there and welcome to Paraguay!
We know how exciting and sometimes overwhelming it can be to settle into a new country. As a team of Paraguayans who help expats feel at home, we’re always on the lookout for great spots where you can work comfortably, meet new people, or simply enjoy a peaceful coffee break.
Over the past months, we’ve spent a lot of time visiting local cafés (tough job, we know 😉) to find the ones that really get it — the ones with good Wi-Fi, welcoming vibes, and of course, excellent coffee. Whether you’re a digital nomad hunting for your next remote office or a family looking for a weekend treat, this list is for you.
Here are some of our favorite cafés in Asunción that we often visit ourselves — and now happily recommend to you:
- Pederzani Café
📍 Villa Morra
We keep going back to Pederzani — and not just because the flat white is on point. The space is bright, modern, and has a kind of quiet energy that’s perfect for getting things done. Wi-Fi here is usually reliable, and there are enough plugs for your laptop (big plus!).
If you have kids, the staff is super friendly and they have pastries that are basically guaranteed to win over little ones.
Perfect for: Solo work sessions, low-key business chats, or a cozy family coffee run.
- La Galette
📍 Recoleta
If you’re craving that European café vibe, this is your spot. From the moment you walk in, the smell of buttery croissants hits you in the best way. It’s a smaller space, so maybe not ideal for a full day of remote work — but perfect for a relaxed morning with your laptop and a good espresso.
We love coming here on Sundays. The vibe is slower, people linger over brunch, and it’s easy to forget you’re in the middle of the city. Our advice? Try the lemon tart — it’s dangerously good.
Perfect for: A slower-paced workday, weekend brunch with the family or catching up with friends.
- El Cafetero
📍 Barrio Jara
There’s nothing pretentious about El Cafetero — and that’s exactly what we love. It’s a solid, everyday café with great coffee, fair prices, and a chill atmosphere. No fuss, no pressure. Just a good place to sit down, open your laptop, and get into flow mode.
When we’re in the mood for something familiar and comforting, this is where we go. Plus, the menu has something for everyone, so it’s great if you’re visiting with your partner or kids.
Perfect for: Getting work done without distractions, grabbing a bite with the family, or your new “usual” spot.
- La Herencia Café
📍 Las Mercedes
This one has a different flavor — literally. La Herencia mixes traditional Paraguayan ingredients with a modern twist. You’ll find mbeju on the menu next to cappuccinos, and the decor reflects a bit of our cultural roots, which makes it feel very homey.
We love bringing newcomers here because it’s a great introduction to our local flavors. It’s also surprisingly spacious, so even during busy hours, you can usually find a table.
Perfect for: Trying local favorites, relaxed meetings, or weekend coffee with cultural flair.
- El Café de Acá
📍 Villa Morra
This is the café we recommend when someone says: “I want to go where the locals go.” El Café de Acá feels like you’re stepping into someone’s cozy home. The garden area is especially charming — we’ve had team meetings here under the trees, surrounded by birdsong and the smell of fresh chipas.
The coffee? Top-notch. The atmosphere? Warm and real. It’s not trying to be trendy, and that’s exactly its charm.
Perfect for: Unwinding in a truly local setting, writing your next blog post, or enjoying a peaceful morning with your family.
Finding your go-to café is part of the fun of building a life in a new place. And trust us, Asunción won’t disappoint. Each of these spots has a special vibe, and we hope you find one (or more!) that feels just right for you.
From all of us at Paraguay Residency Team, we’re not only here to help you with paperwork and processes. We’re also here to share the small, everyday places that make this country feel like home.
Welcome again, and happy café-hopping!
